Ten minutes here explains the whole plan. Every result in this guide comes from tests on this app's own data.
0 · THE PLAN — start here
After 4:00 PM ET, the cloud updates stock_bars with the latest available Yahoo data.
Cards show ⏳ Provisional until Yahoo volume settlement is final.
When the Yahoo worker declares the day settled, the brain updates stock_bars again and cards show ✅ Final for that date.
The plan, in three rules:
- Buy every kickoff. No filtering by grade, score, RS, sector, location or candle shape.
- Sell into the first continuation kickoff. If that candle is climactic (≥10% on ≥2× volume), it is the best ending measured — 89% and 94% win across the two samples, ~+15–16% median, with only ~+2% more available in the following 10 days.
- No continuation within 40 days → exit anyway.
Kickoff alerts now require:
• +5% or more
• volume at least 1.3× average
• green candle
• close in upper half
• prior decline at least -15%
• calm-after-decline gate:
– post-trough range ≤ 14%
– max daily swing ≤ 8%
What it delivers: 69% / +5.7% and 66% / +5.5% median across the two datasets, against 55% / +3.2% and 59% / +3.6% for simply holding 40 days — in roughly half the time in trade (~18 days vs 40). Realistic next-open fills cost about half a point: 67% / +5.4% and 64% / +4.7%.
There is no stop-loss, deliberately. Two were tested and both made things worse. A kickoff-low stop took 69% → 51%. A base-low stop made large losses more frequent (16% → 21%). About a quarter of trades dip below the kickoff low and recover — that is the retest of the accumulation zone, a normal part of the structure. Breaking that low is genuinely bad news (those trades win ~31% vs 96%), but by the time it happens you are usually near the worst price of the trade, so selling there locks in the bottom.
The one early read you do get — the week-one test. Did the stock's intraday high exceed the kickoff high at any point in the first 5 days? It is a one-time exam: pass once and you are permanently in the strong cohort (73–74% win); never pass and you are in the weak one (36–43%). Pulling back later does not undo a pass. The HOLDING banner reports exactly this.
One context signal, replicated: a kickoff in a stock more than 25% below its 52-week high reaches the continuation exit 82–84% of the time; one within 10% of the high reaches it only 39–71%. This changes how reliably the planned ending arrives, not the profit per trade.
What was tested and rejected — do not filter on these. Quality grades (all land 61–74%; marginal was best in one sample and worst in the other) · PRIME gating (keeps 28% of signals for the same win rate) · climactic entries (62% vs 68% — flips) · sector RS (flat either way) · stock RS (a drag in one sample only) · MA20 cushion and location (no gate; extended >20% was the best band, thin mildly worse) · candle wicks, body and close position (nothing; a large upper wick did fine) · pre-volume surging vs fading (the old 71%/37% split did not transfer — fading was equal or slightly better here) · moving averages and near-52w-high.
Why none of it works, structurally. The engine has already filtered hard before any grading happens: to be crowned at all, a day has to clear the kickoff algorithm's full set of structural and volume conditions. By then the ugly candidates are gone, and grading within the survivors measures noise around a filter that has already done its job.
Where the kickoff sits in the cycle. Decline → accumulation → the kickoff is the ignition out of accumulation → expansion (2–3 weeks) → crescendo. It is not the start of a smooth trend leg: five candidate "trend start" candles were tested and all returned roughly a coin flip afterwards. The expansion phase is the only part of the cycle with a measurable edge, and the continuation kickoff is its crescendo — which is why selling into it works.
Honest limits. One trade in three loses and one in six loses 10%+. A 66% win rate means losing streaks of 4–5 will happen. Both datasets are this watchlist — trend-biased names, with the top 5 tickers carrying 29–37% of total return; kickoffs on random stocks likely do worse. The recent stretch was weaker (2025: 61%, 2026: 63%, with fatter tails). Two overlapping periods, one engine, no commissions modelled. Nothing here is financial advice.
READING A CARD — what to act on, and what is only information
The plan is box 0: buy every kickoff, and sell at the first continuation kickoff or on day 40. A card tells you where each stock is in that plan.
1 · The banner at the top — the only part you act on.
- ▲ KICKOFF TODAY — ENTRY — the buy. When your bot is on, it buys at the next open.
- ◷ HOLDING — DAY 6 — you are in the trade: wait for the exit. It also tells you if the price went above the kickoff high in the first 5 days: ✓ confirmed (those won 73–74%) or ✕ never cleared (36–43%). Either way, the plan stays the same.
- ◆ EXIT — the first continuation kickoff fired today: sell. CLIMACTIC (up 10% or more on 2× the volume or more) is the best ending measured.
- ⊘ STALLED — 40 days and no continuation: sell. That is the time exit.
- ✓ LEG COMPLETE — the exit already fired. Anything after it is a new trade.
The strip above the banner shows the same thing in three steps: WARMING → KICKOFF → SELL. A card with no banner is not in a trade.
2 · Information only — read these, but do not pick trades with them.
- Stk RS+ / RS− / neutral — how much more (or less) the stock went up than SPY over the last 21 trading days. +2% or more is RS+, −2% or less is RS−, anything in between is neutral. Tested as a filter: no help.
- 📊 XLK RS+ (XLK is the stock's sector fund) — the same sum for that sector fund against SPY. Tested as a filter: no help.
- Position, in the card's 💓 Kickoff candle panel — how far below its 52-week high the kickoff fired: low is 30% or more below, mid is 15–30% below, high is within 15%. Over 5 years the three won almost the same: 62.0%, 62.2% and 62.9%.
- deep pullback / near 52w high on the banner — a kickoff far below its high reached the planned exit more often (82–84%) than one near its high (39–71%). It changes how often the exit comes, not how much a trade makes.
- The candle panel's badge and grade (PRIMARY, BEAR-TRAP, EXTENDED-BASE · textbook, standard, explosive, marginal) — they describe the candle. No grade changed the result.
- ⛏ base depth — how far the stock fell before the kickoff, and how often bases that deep reached their exit. Information only, not a reason to skip a trade.
- ✅ / ⚠ calm — how quiet the stock was before the kickoff, with the numbers.
- The action badge (NO SETUP, STILL GOOD and so on) — only on a card with no banner. An older timing label, kept to read, not to act on.
3 · Your positions — each shows its gain or loss at the last close.
- 📔 +3.2% in the top corner — you hold it in your trade log. Tap it for the log.
- 🤖 +3.2% next to the price — your bot holds it. Tap it to open the bot. dry in the pill means a dry-run position, with no real shares.
4 · Watch, do not buy.
- 🌡 WARMING — a deep fall that has gone quiet. About 3 in 4 fire a kickoff within 30 days, but buying before the kickoff did worse than waiting for it.
- 📉 RSI(2) (Discord only) — a buy alert when RSI(2) closes under 10 above the 200-day average, and a sell alert when it closes over 70. Liquid stocks only. It posts to its own Discord channel, not to the app, and the bot does not buy it.
Not measured here: an earnings report during the hold can move the price a lot either way. The 📅 earnings words show reports in the next 14 days.
